Awards Evening – A Celebration of Achievement On Tuesday 29th April 2025, we proudly hosted our annual Awards Evening – a memorable celebration, recognising the outstanding achievements, effort, and dedication of our pupils. It was a fantastic opportunity to come together as a school community to honour excellence in academics, personal growth, and contributions to school life. We were delighted to welcome our special guest speaker, Neil Hudgell, whose inspiring words encouraged pupils to aim high and believe in their potential. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents, carers, and staff who joined us for this special evening and helped make it such a success.

The Marvell College Tops Attendance League Table The Department for Education (DfE) recently published data comparing secondary school attendance with that of 20 similar schools nationally covering the period from the start of the 2024-2025 academic year in September 2024 to Tuesday 8th April 2025. It is with great pleasure that I can report that The Marvell College placed 1st of the 21 schools for overall attendance and for persistent absence. More key details are listed below Our attendance is 3.9% higher than the median attendance of similar schools. Our persistent absence is 11.7% lower than the median of similar schools. FSM pupils’ attendance is 5.6% higher than that in similar schools. Non-FSM pupils’ attendance is 2.2% higher than that of similar schools. SEN is pupils’ attendance is 7.1% higher than that of similar schools. Non-SEN pupils’ attendance is 3.9% higher than that if similar schools. Our attendance for all groups of pupils is higher than the comparable time last year with the biggest increases coming for our most vulnerable pupils, FSM (2.9%) and SEN (4.4%). As a school, we place great emphasis on the importance of regular attendance at school and our own data, highlighted in the table below, shows that the higher pupils’ attendance to our school is, the more successful they are. Recently published data has also shown pupils with attendance of 95%+ are TWICE AS LIKELY to gain good passes in english and mathematics compared to similar pupils with attendance of between 90-95%. I am very proud of the work pupils, parents and carers, and our staff have done to improve attendance to school in our community and look forward to this trend continuing over the coming weeks, months, and years.

Year 11 Examination Timetable

Pupils and staff are completing lots of sightseeing in Barcelona, they even visited the Christopher Columbus statue at the end of La Ramblas.

Please see below the Easter revision sessions that will be running over the break. This is a good opportunity for pupils to further enhance their knowledge in preparation for their GCSE's.

Our Year 9 boys rugby team played in a R16 Yorkshire plate game against a strong school from Huddersfield called 'The Brooksbank School'. The boys were outstanding both on and off the field, winning 48-8 to progress into the quarter finals. They6 also received high praise off the referee who said every one of them were polite and respectful in the way they played.

The Barcelona trip is underway! Pupils and staff have visited the Sagrada Familia and completed a tapas workshop.

On Thursday 27th March 2025 Year 8 pupils will be off timetable for 2 hours to go over their options.

On Thursday 20th March 2025 pupils in Year 9 will be particiapating the the Prison Me, No Way programme on site. 

Exciting news for all drama lovers at The Marvell College! Due to a huge rise in pupils wanting to take part, the Drama Club is now running two separate groups which means even more opportunities to perform, have fun, and build confidence on stage! After the amazing success of their Christmas pantomime Aladdin, the talented pupils are now busy preparing for a Summer Showcase Bonanza! This spectacular show will feature a mix of musical theatre and acting, bringing scenes from some of the biggest West End hits to life. Expect performances from favorites like Wicked, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Moana, and more! Get ready to cheer on this talented bunch as they take to the stage towards the end of the Summer Term. But be quick as tickets will sell out fast! Don't miss out on what promises to be a show-stopping performance!  

Year 10 Mock Examinations At the start of the term, Year 10 sat their first mock examination under GCSE conditions. We would like to congratulate pupils for their excellent attitude towards their first mock examination and their attendance at the revision breakfast. Our plan is to have another set of mock examinations for Mathematics and Science at the end of this half term. These will commence in the week beginning 31st March 2025.

Huge congratulations to our Year 9 boys rugby team who beat a strong Archbishop Sentamu Academy side on Monday night in the first round of the Yorkshire plate. A very well deserved win for the boys who played excellently and represented The Marvell College with pride. Good luck to E Wilson who is competing in the National Cross Country Championships on Saturday 15th March 2025. We wish him all the best!

Hull City Council Healthy Holidays Easter Programme 2025 

Well done to the 83 pupils who have been regularly attending our Performing Arts extra-curricular clubs every week in preparation for the summer showcase!

On Thursday 27th February 2025, we had one of Hull Children’s Book Award shortlisted and Waterstone’s Children’s Book of the Year shortlisted author Clare Harlow visit TMC and speak to the pupils about her novel Tidemagic: The Many Faces of Ista Flit. Clare spoke about her writing process and how anyone can write a story from the stories that surround them. The pupils taking part in the James Reckitt Book Awards asked interesting questions about the illustrations and the editing process. We even had a budding author show their story to Clare.
