Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum Intent

The curriculum is designed to enable pupils to be successful in understanding and experiencing other cultures, ideals, and world views that they might otherwise not be exposed to. In Modern Foreign Languages we deliver a broad curriculum that promotes the enjoyment of languages and enables pupils to communicate effectively in French.

We focus on the following key areas within Modern Foreign Languages:

Communication. Today’s world is a diverse mix of cultures, languages, and traditions; therefore, it is more important than ever that we learn to be more inclusive an understanding of other societies and their beliefs. This will help open up our world literally and figuratively.

Ambition.  Language skills are among the top eight skills required for all occupations and can be a significant competitive advantage that sets people apart in many career paths.

Transferable skills.  People who speak more than one language typically have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills, leading to better educational outcomes.

Confidence.  Learning a language means putting yourself out there and moving out of your comfort zone. It can open additional doors to opportunities for travelling, studying or working abroad.
