Studying Science opens our eyes to a world rich in wonder, and a future that we can shape.
To develop curious learners who can apply their skills and scientific concepts to explain natural phenomena. By understanding the relevance of Science in the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, pupils will be best able to respond to the pace of technological change, and be leaders in their chosen field.
We focus on the following key areas within all three disciplines.
Scientific attitudes. We work with accuracy, precision and care. We understand the importance of an evidence based approach.
Experimental skills and investigation. Asking questions, posing hypotheses and testing them out is how we develop understanding. We consider the repeatability and reproducibility of our practical work in order to validate it.
Analysis and evaluation. We apply our mathematical skills to calculate and analyse results. Data is presented in appropriate ways. Evaluations are backed up with scientific knowledge and we explain where, how and why errors might occur.
Fluency of reading. Reading underpins our access to the scientific world and we take opportunities to develop our reading skills. New vocabulary is introduced frequently, and we work to put these words and terms into context to deepen our understanding. By applying key literacy techniques, we understand the demands and requirements of the tasks we are set.
