Performing Arts Curriculum Intent

Music

To develop knowledge and understanding of the origins of Music and its purpose, through composing, listening and performing.

Dance

To develop creativity and imagination through exploration of movement and expression.

Drama

To develop transferable creative thinking skills, teamworking skills and independent learning through the arts.

We focus on the following key areas within Performing Arts:

Performance. Our subjects are performance subjects. We perform in a variety of styles, with different instruments and props. We replicate existing pieces and works from scripts, notation and video references, using relevant techniques, flair and contrast.

Composing/Devising. As creative subjects, we create original pieces of music, dance and drama, through composing, choreographing and devising. This is done in a range of genres, using specific stylistic features.

Evaluation. We evaluate our own work and the work of other practitioners, composers and performers through watching, listening and reflecting. The ability to evaluate allows us to understand how to create and perform at a high level and develop our own work.

Fluency of reading. Reading underpins our access to the subject. We take opportunities to develop our reading skills. New vocabulary is introduced frequently, and we embed these tiers 2 and 3 words and terms throughout lessons to develop our technical vocabulary for Performing Arts.
