To understand how to shape the future generation through play.
Child development gives pupils the opportunity to develop applied knowledge and understanding of child development and growth up to the age of five, how children learn through play and how meeting the needs of individual children will support their development, play and learning.
We focus on the following key areas across the course:
Caring attitudes. We work with understanding and empathetic attitudes to understand the impact and importance of play as well as the role of the carer/ guardian to monitor children’s development.
Developments. We look at how different events and factors can affect children’s development over time in terms of physical, cognitive, and intellectual, communication and social skills.
Critical Thinking. We look at different case studies and assess their needs or possible improvements that carers/ child minders could do in order to further their children’s development.
Analysis and evaluation. We use literacy skills to analyse case studies allowing us to draw up conclusions as well as suggesting ways to help and support the individual. We also look at reading centile charts and the importance of logging the development of growth.
Fluency of reading. Reading underpins our access to case studies, and we take opportunities to develop our reading skills. Modelling is used to show context and highlight important activities and actions vital for the external exam.
